Why we celebrate Christingle:
The idea came from a Moravian Church in Germany in 1747. Rev. John de Watteville, gave lighted candles with red ribbon to the children at the service which represent Jesus being the light of the world. His final prayer on that service and I quote was "Lord Jesus, kindle a flame in these children’s hearts, that theirs like Thine become". In Moravian churches, the Christingle Service is usually held on the Sunday before Christmas or on Christmas Eve. This custom went around the world within the churches and evolved from just a lighted candle to what we have now.
